Medically known as comedones,  blackheads are caused by clogged skin pores or hair follicles. Skin debris (your dead skin) combines with natural oil (Sebum) from the skin to clogg pores. Blackheads and whiteheads are caused in the same way. The difference between whitehead and a black head is a black head is exposed to the air and turns black whereas a white head has not been exposed to  the air. Wikipedia and MNT knowledge center are both good sources for detailed information about the cause of both whitehead and blackheads.

Do blackheads go away on their own?

NO…Because of the causes of blackheads (discussed above) they will normally not go away on their own. Normal washing and keeping the skin clean of course is recommended and a good health practice, however excessive washing and cleaning of the skin can cause skin irritation, and skin eruptions (Pimples). Washing more than twice a day with normal soap and water is not recommended.

Why me???? and Why now???

Blackheads are common as teenagers began to go through puberty and as hormonal changes occur in a woman’s body as for example when she becomes pregnant. People with oily skin or more prone to get blackheads and it can occur on many parts of their body. Stress is another cause of imbalances that can cause breakouts. As one starts to use makeup special care needs to be taken to prevent clogged poors. This can be done by selecting makeup that is both nonceomedogenic  and non acnegenic.

Non acnegenic Makup>>>>>>>>

If your skin has too much sebum(oil), you’ll probably be battling acne. If you have just the right amount of this oily substance, it helps protect your skin. But if your skin has too little sebum, you could end up with dry, cracked skin.

Blackheads around the nose, chin and forehead area are common as are black heads on the back and chest. This is because different parts of the body have different numbers of sebaceous glands (that secrete sebum) . Your feet and hands have very few, your forehead, chin, nose and back, have the most … upward of 2,600 sebaceous glands per square inch. [source: New ZealandDermatological Society].
